COMPARISON BETWEEN
WESTERN AND MY TOWN CULTURE
Family life
In western
averange family size 2 parents, 2.4 children. Children are expensive, this is
the main reason why family are so small. Family planning means that couples
have children later in life about 28 years old. Usual times children have to
back home, in bed, for 14 years old – 10pm, 16 years old – 12midnight, 18 years
old – whenever as long as children tell parents where they are going and when
they will be back. Most families have 2 cars. The important birthday are sweet
16, 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 80, 100 years old.
In my town
averange family size big, 2 parents, 2.6 children, sometimes gether with grand
mother, grand father, son-daughter in law. Children are cheap, so that why
family are so big . Family or couples to have children without planning, usual
after married directly get a baby, it is more happy. Nothing especially times
children have to back home, if a girl go out at the night, did not go back
until 10pm, that is naughty girl, and there are many someone will talk about
her. Most family have 1 motorcycle. Then nothing especially important birthday.
Fashion
In western
fashion is popular for everyone, and that very important. Usual the girl wear
Tshirt, short pants, sometimes the Tshirt so short and thin, then looked the
navel hole. The boy wear Tshirt,
trousers. That is informal style. Formal style like wear gown for the girl,
wear coat and necktie for the boy.
In my town
fashion important too, but more polite style than in western. Usual the girl
wear trousers, long Tshirt until cover the bottom, sometimes there is wear
hijjab. The boy wear Tshirt like usual, wear trousers. Formal style, usually
the girl wear longdress, the boy wear blouse
and trousers.
Food
Meat is main
food in western, most of society of western eat meat everyday, and eat
vegetarian, as like pitza, hamburger, hot dog and ect. Usually they ate without
rice. Eat breakfast only eat some bread and drink milk. Then eat lunch and
dinner with menu steak or pasta.
Rice is main
food in my town, eat breakfast without rice as like as not eat. Rice is very
important. The people seldom eat meat, often eat seafood. My town so near with
sea, so easier to get seafood. The price not so expensive than meat.
Religion
Most of people
in western non moeslim, christian and protestan. Every Sunday they go to church
to pray. Then every year at 25 desember, they had christmas celebration. Gether
with family, party, ready have christmas tree, change gift to each other.
Mostly moeslim society
at my town. Everyday pray 5 times in one day. Then in One year have 2
celebration for moeslim, Idul fitri and idul adha. Idul fitri is mean that to
forgiven with other moeslim. Idul adha is mean charity to other, or the other
named celebrate who has made the pilgrimage to mecca.
Stereotypes
Western people
are singleness, self trust, in a hurry, don’t care about family, don’t care
about old people, materialisme.
Javaness people
are togetherness, slowly but surely, care with family, polite with old people,
generous to others.
